The Brabourne Stadium in Navi Mumbai witnessed a thrilling encounter between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the ongoing 2023 Women’s Premier League (WPL) on Monday.
RCB opted to bat first, continuing to lose wickets at regular intervals and being bowled out for 155 in 18.4 overs. Captain Smriti Mandhana again failed to impress, scoring 23 from 17 balls. Wicketkeeper batter Richa Ghoshwith 28 out of 26, including 3 fours and a six, was the highest scorer for the Challengers.
Hayley Matthews was the star with the ball for Mumbai, finishing with figures of 4-0-28-3 while Saika Ishaque took two wickets for 26 runs.
Mumbai Indians in response, after losing Yastica Bhatia (23), didn’t look back, with Hayley and Nat Sciver-Brunt attack the opposition. The pair set up a huge 114-run partnership for the second wicket, with Hayley hitting a brilliant unbeaten 77 from just 38 balls, including 13 fours and a six.
Nat Sciver also scored an unbeaten 55 from 29 deliveries, including nine fours and one maximum. Harmanpreet Kaur-led Mumbai chased the target comfortably in just 14.2 overs to win the match by nine wickets.

Just a fantastic display of batting from Nat Sciver Brunt and Hayley Mathews. Made batting look so easy in their contrasting way. Hard to choose one shot from the many they played

What a knock from Hayley Matthews – 77* in just 38 balls. A complete powerhouse from the West Indies, she was picked for base price.

To think that Hayley Matthews went a few rounds without finding a team in the #WPL Auction. Clutch player with bat and ball. #WPL2023 #TATAWPL #MI pic.twitter.com/3AQUhj330S
