The 2023 Women’s Premier League (WPL) saw a thrilling double-header come true on Saturday UP Warriorz defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) in the afternoon fixture while Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) defeated Gujarat Giants (GG) in the evening game.

Bowling first, UP bundled Mumbai for 127 in 20 overs, with opener Hayley Matthews the maximum 35 scoring from 30 balls. Sophie Ecclestone was the bowler’s choice for the Warriorz, taking three wickets for 15 runs in her 4 overs quota. Likewise, Rajeshwari Gayakwad And Deepti Sharma took two wickets each.

In pursuit, the Mumbai bowlers took the game to the wire and kept the Warriorz for their money. Grace Harris with 39 out of 28 and Tahlia McGrath with 38 of 25 top scores for UP as the Alyssa Healy-led side completed the chase with three balls to spare and five wickets in hand.

The second game was a high-scoring encounter with both sides scoring over 180 runs in their respective innings. First up, the Giants went 188/4 in 20 overs, courtesy of Laura Wolvaardt‘s brilliant knock of 68 points.

The huge target was easily shot down by the Challengers as they completed the chase within 16 overs. Opener Sophia Devin destroyed the Giants’ bowling offense with her whirlwind at bat.

Devine formed a sparkling 125-point opening partnership with the captain Smriti Mandhana as the duo kept the run rate high to keep their side in pursuit. Devine missed beating what could be a stunning century by a lone run as she was dumped with 99 from just 36 deliveries, using nine fours and eight sixes.
