Weston McKennie wanted by Dortmund and Bournemouth

Juventus and USMNT midfielder Weston McKennie has attracted interest from a number of clubs, including Borussia Dortmund and Bournemouth. With the turn of the year to 2023, the January transfer window has officially opened. Therefore, clubs can start acquiring new funds for the second half of the campaign.

Weston McKennie could be one of those players, with Borussia Dortmund and Bournemouth showing interest, according to Calcio Mercato. Juventus wants to sell the American midfielder. Following his arrival from Schalke in the summer of 2021 for just over $20 million after a season-long loan spell, McKennie failed to hit the spot. Although he is a decent player, he only shows his brilliance in flashes. Four goals in 29 appearances last season led to three goals and an assist with 16 appearances in the current campaign.

Bournemouth and Borussia Dortmund are a couple of clubs keeping an eye on Weston McKennie. He has experience in Germany and climbed through the ranks at Schalke before making his first-team debut. Then Bournemouth is an interesting landing spot because of the cash injection of the Cherries under a new American owner.

In turn, Juventus would use the money to support other venues. Paul Pogba is coming back from an injury after missing all games of the current season. World Cup runner-up Adrien Rabiot is the other midfield man Max Allegri could use. Juventus believes it can still make a decent amount of money from the sale of McKennie.

Juventus seems to be selling Weston McKennie to Dortmund or Bournemouth

Part of McKennie’s challenge is simply staying sane. At a time when the midfielder seems to be making his way into Serie A, an injury is hampering his progress. In his two and a half season to date in Turin, McKennie missed a total of 27 games due to injury or illness. The longest stint was from the end of February until the end of the 2021/22 campaign. A metatarsal fracture sidelined him as Juventus limped to fourth in the league.

Despite the history of injuries, Calcio Mercato estimates that Juventus could earn around $40 million for McKennie. There are benefits to selling Americans, with three players transferring to the Premier League for at least $24 million in recent years. Bournemouth could join those ranks by bringing one of the USMNT’s key players to the Premier League.

Or Borussia Dortmund could bring McKennie back to Germany. McKennie performed quite well in the German top flight as a young midfielder. In addition, Dortmund has a reputation for getting the most out of players and producing talent. Don’t forget that McKennie is only 24. He promises to be an important part of the USMNT’s success for the next decade.
