After the early setbacks on the opening day of the first Test against bangladesh at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Team India recovered well, thanks to gritty punches through Cheteshwar Pujara and Shreyas Iyer.
The tourists, after opting to bat first, had a terrible start as they lost three wickets for just 48 in the 20 overs. Dan Pujara, along with Rishabh pantstried to stabilize the innings by adding a crucial 64-run score for the fourth wicket.
Just when the visitors wanted to put pressure on the hosts, Mehidy Hassan came up with a ripper and clean bowled Pant for a well-made 46 from 45 deliveries, including 6 fours and 2 sixes.
Pujara continued to tickle the scoreboard and was well supported by Iyer as the duo led India’s recovery. The batting pair eventually formed a brilliant 149-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Both Pujara and Iyer crushed their respective half-century and looked comfortable taking India to the stumps without further damage.
But Taijul Islamwho did a fantastic job for Bangladesh throughout the opening day, curbed India’s momentum by rejecting the well-set Pujara for 90. Axar Patel (14) on the last ball of the day to finish at 278/6 in 90 overs as Iyer remained unbeaten on 82 from 169 deliveries.

Correct day of Test cricket. Bangladesh then won the first session @cheteshwar1 and @ShryasIyer15 got India on top before Bangladesh made a comeback late in the day. Ban hopes to eject Ind under 350. Ind wants 400+. #BANVIND pic.twitter.com/aMvlBmIdJY

Stumps on Day 1 – India on top with 50s from Shreyas, Pujara and vital 45 (46) from Pant.
48 for 3 to 278 for 6 – A great recovery by India.
