Twitter Reactions: Rohit Sharma’s battle knock is in vain as Bangladesh beat India in final ball thriller to seal series


In another heart-pounding thriller at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka, Bangladesh defeated India by five runs to win the ODI series.

This game swung one way and the other, and the result was not decided until the last episode of India’s chase. Shreyas Iyer (82) and Axar Patel (56) were impressive after India fell to four wickets at 65. The duo amassed 107 runs for the fifth wicket before the Bangladesh bowlers brought their side back into the game with quick dismissals at key moments

Captain Rohit Sharma, whose injured left thumb forced him not to open, came to bat at number nine to get the tourists out of trouble, and almost did so by reducing the equation to 12 needed from 2 deliveries. Rohit hit Mustafizur Rahman for a six on the fifth throw of the final over but couldn’t get the last ball over the fence as India lost the thrilling game by five points. Rohit cracked an unbeaten 51 off 28 balls.

Earlier, Mehidy Hassan Miraz, the hero of the opener of the three-match series, came on again for Bangladesh and hit a superb century to take the hosts to a competitive 271/7 as they lost six wickets for just 69. Mehidy hit 100 off 83 balls , including 8 fours and 4 sixes. He was well supported by veteran Mahmudullah, who scored 77 from 96 deliveries.
