Twitter Reactions: Deepak Hooda, Shivam Mavi shine as India defeated Sri Lanka in thrilling match at Wankhede

The first T20 International (T20I) between India and Sri Lanka turned into an all-out thriller with the hosts beating the visitors by two runs at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday.

Chasing 163, the Islanders had small partnerships throughout the game, but continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. Captain Dasun Shanaka kept Sri Lanka in the game and fought hard with his 27-ball, 45-run knockout with three fours and as many sixes, but the Lankans lost momentum shortly after his dismissal.

Debutant Shivam Mavi had a memorable play with the ball as the right arm pacer took a four wicket haul while giving away just 22 runs in his 4 overs quota. The game did go to the wire, where India managed to win the last ball thriller.

Previously, the Men in Blue were in trouble after losing their five wickets within 100 runs earlier Deepak Hooda and Axar Patel got the hosts back on track. The duo put on a brilliant unbeaten partnership of 68 runs for the sixth wicket to take their side to 162/5 in 20 overs.

While Hooda crushed an unbeaten 41 off 23 deliveries using five boundaries, including four sixes, Axar couldn’t fail on 31 off 20 balls, including three fours and a maximum.

Aside from Hooda and Axar, opener Ishan Kishan and captain Hardik Pandaya chipped with vital contributions of 37 and 29 respectively. For the tourists, Wanindu Hasaranga was the cheapest bowler as he gave up 22 runs in his 4 overs quota and picked up Kishan’s prized scalp.
