This trade between Warriors and Timberwolves sets Karl Towns in motion

NBA Analytics Network

An NBA writer proposes that the Golden State Warriors acquire All-Star big man Karl-Anthony Towns from the Minnesota Timberwolves this summer.

Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report suggested that the Warriors Jordan Poole, Jonathan Kuminga, Patrick Baldwin Jr. and sending the 19th overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft to the Timberwolves for Towns, who are one of the best players in the NBA.

“If you add him to the Golden State offense, it could gain momentum,” Buckley wrote. “He’s a really good shooter (career 39.5 percent out of three), but arguably the best shooting big man in history. Even with smaller defenders on the post, he can keep things moving as a passer or toy. There would be no good way for defenses to handle a Towns-Curry pick-and-roll, and those Curry-Green pick-and-rolls would become exponentially more challenging if they had to account for the shooting threats from both Towns and Thompson.”

“As for the Wolves, they may already be accepting that the Towns-Gobert tandem is not the right approach in the modern Association,” Buckley wrote. “They could liven up their gift by adding Poole’s creation and shot-making, and they could really do business if Kuminga maxed out his potential and one or both of Patrick Baldwin Jr. and the incoming draft pick hit.”
