Shocking Details Of DeMar DeRozan’s Bull Future

NBA Analytics Network

The Chicago Bulls are rapidly approaching a crossroads that will define the path this franchise will take for years to come. After spending a ton of money over the past two years to upgrade the roster, the Bulls are currently out of the NBA Play-In Tournament in the Eastern Conference, and there could be some big changes on the horizon.

One of the players whose future is up in the air is DeMar DeRozan. DeRozan was acquired from the San Antonio Spurs during the 2021 off-season in a sign-and-trade deal. Since landing in the Windy City, DeRozan has been the team’s most consistent player. Alas, his time in Chicago could come to an end sooner rather than later.

According to Chris Haynes of Bleacher Reportthere could be a trade request from DeRozan if things don’t improve in the coming weeks and months.

“The Chicago Bulls are dealing with team chemistry and accountability dysfunction while stationed 11th in the Eastern Conference standings (13-18). If things don’t improve this season, rivals executives think it could lead star guard DeMar DeRozan to be moved off-season, league sources tell Bleacher Report.

DeRozan reportedly has increasing tension with Zach LaVine on the court as their skills sometimes overlap. While they have respect for each other and there is no animosity towards the other, the chemistry just isn’t there on the field as multiple player meetings have been held but no progress has been made.

If the Bulls get an offer with multiple picks in the first round, something the Los Angeles Lakers will reportedly consider if they can bring in DeRozan and Nikola Vucevic, they won’t wait until the offseason for a formal request from DeRozan. They will trade him west without hesitation if the team continues to lose to two future first-round picks from the Lakers.

Haynes also pointed out that DeRozan’s current contract situation is something that could encourage a trade from the team.

“DeRozan, who has been the Bulls’ most consistent star, has another year on his contract. Playing with an expiring contract is a non-starter for most high caliber players. The possibilities: Extend after the season or request a new location. Chicago has its work to do.”

If there is no interest from the Bulls in renewing DeRozan after this season, it makes sense to trade him for as many assets as possible. Given how well he’s been playing, Chicago would certainly make more in a trade package than they sent to the Spurs in exchange for him.

Tough decisions certainly lie ahead for the Bulls’ front office as they face the harsh reality that they may need to rebuild as this current core may already have run its course.
