Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara and others react to Murali Vijay’s retirement from international cricket

Former India opener Murali Vijay announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket on Monday 30 January. Vijay, who played his first game for India in 2008, took to Twitter to share the news.

In his career, Vijay played 61 test matches and collected 3982 runs. The 38-year-old also represented the country in 17 ODIs and 9 T20Is, but particularly excelled in the longest format, earning the title of India’s Test specialist.

The news of Vijay’s retirement drew congratulations from former and active cricketers.

Notably, Vijay was also part of India’s Champions Trophy victory in 2013, and most of the heartwarming tributes for him came from the teammates of the other champions.

Rohit Sharma congratulated the Tamil Nadu cricketer on a fantastic career and wished him the best of luck in future endeavours.

“Monka well done on your career brother, loved watching you play some of your masterpieces especially in Australia. Good luck bro.”

Shichar Dhawan wished Vijay a great future.

Former all-rounder in India Suresh Raina cherished the fond memories with his Chennai Super Kings (CSK) teammate and shared a video along with a heartwarming message.

“Great memories of playing together! Congratulations on your achievements for the country and CSK! Wishing you the best for the future @mvj888”

Ravichandran Ashwin posted a photo with Vijay to wish him a happy retirement.

Ishant Sharma praised the former India opener and admired his technique in the congratulatory message.

Cheteshwar Pujarawho has had many solid collaborations with Vijay said it was a pleasure to play with him.

Robin Uthappa also wished the cricketer a bright future.
