Reactions on Twitter: Umesh Yadav, R Ashwin shine as India tackle Bangladesh on 227 in first innings of Mirpur Test

The Team India bowlers had a memorable performance on the opening day of the second Test against Bangladesh at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. The combination of pace and spin of Umesh Yadav and Ravichandran Ashwin destroyed Bangladesh’s batting unit as the hosts were bowled out for 227 in 73.5 overs.
Umesh took full advantage of the circumstances and returned with a sensational four-wicket haul, beating people like Shakib Al Hasan (16), Mehidy Hasan Miraz (15), Nurul Hasan (6) and Task Ahmed (1). The right-arm pacemaker had phenomenal frugality, as he conceded just 25 runs from 15 overs, including 4 maidens.
Similarly, Ashwin also picked up four scalps including the prized wicket of Mominul Haque, who then hit a brilliant 84-run knock. Ashwin took four wickets while giving away 71 runs from 21.5 overs, including 3 maidens.
Aside from the duo, Jaydev Unadkat, who is making a comeback in the Test side after 12 years, took two wickets. After taking home team for 227, India managed to reach 19 without loss on stumps with captain KL Rahul (3 not out) and Shubman Gill (14 not out) at the fold.
“The start is good for the pacers early on. Some balls are kicking off, and some are stitching. I just looked to hit the right areas. When Ashwin started, we thought it would run. But that didn’t happen, the pace isn’t there for the spinners to spin. The dry grass has made the surface spongy. We tried to turn around and bowl wicket to wicket. Glad I got it,” said Umesh after the end of the day.
Here’s how Twitter responded:

He is used as a weapon by the Indian testing team and he almost always performs. His attitude and fitness is something all young fast bowlers should aspire to. Figures of 15-4-25-4, well sprung @y_umesh 👏🏽 #BANVIND pic.twitter.com/rGeNUuwp0n

213 for 5 to 227 for 10 – great comeback from India led by Umesh Yadav, one of the best pacers in Asian conditions.

Umesh Yadav is undervalued in Tests, he was great in Asian conditions. pic.twitter.com/nrkbecnW0p

It’s time we respected Umesh Yadav, the bowler in Test Cricket. It’s not easy to always come right in and act when our main bowlers were injured. This was an excellent spell.
