Reactions on Twitter: Dewald Brevis lights up Newlands as MI Cape Town crushes Paarl Royals in SA20 opener

In the opening game of the SA20 2023 that has just started, MI Cape Town beat Paarl Royals by eight wickets at Newlands Stadium on Tuesday.

Batting first, the Royals, led by David Miller, posted 142/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Captain Miller then downed a crucial 42 Josh Butler‘s remarkable half century. The England superstar scored 51 from 42 deliveries, using seven boundaries, including a six.

For me, Jofra Sagittarius, who was playing his first competitive game since being sidelined with an elbow injury, shone in his comeback play. Archer conceded just 27 runs in his 4 overs quota including a maiden and took three wickets.

In response, the Rashid Khan-led MI chased down the paltry target within 16 overs, thanks to a blistering thump from Dewald Brevis. The ‘Baby AB’ destroyed the Paarl Bowlers from the start, hitting five massive sixes and four fours on his 70-run unbeaten run from just 41 deliveries.

Brevis killed the chase with an explosive start and an opening stand of 90 runs to write a comfortable eight wicket triumph and also helped his side secure a bonus run.

“First of all thank you to the audience for the great support. Brilliant atmosphere, really enjoyed batting. I want to thank God too, it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here. My bond with AB is very special. He has played a key role in my development and always gives me the right advice.” Brevis said after wrapping up Player of the Match in the post-match presentation.
