Liverpool take on Real Madrid in race to sign Chelsea star Mason Mount: report

RealMadrid (opens in new tab) have reportedly entered the race to sign Chelsea (opens in new tab) midfielder Mason Mount, who has been strongly linked with a move to Liverpool (opens in new tab) this summer.
The 24-year-old is approaching the final 12 months of his contract with The Blues and talks over a new deal at Stamford Bridge appear to have made little headway so far.
As such, it has been widely speculated that Mount will move this summer, and he appears to have no shortage of big name suitors, with Manchester United (opens in new tab) and Bayern Munich (opens in new tab) also touted as potential destinations.
According to the Spanish outlet El National (through Goal) (opens in new tab)Real is the latest European giant to show interest in Mount.
The report says that the Champions League holders see him as the perfect replacement for Marco Asensio and former Chelsea man Eden Hazard, both of whom are expected to leave the Bernabeu in the off-season.
Mount is currently valued at around £57 million Transfer market (opens in new tab)although The athletic (opens in new tab) reported earlier this week that Chelsea will demand £70 million for their academy product.

The England international – who has won 36 caps for his country – made his senior Chelsea debut in 2019 and made 192 appearances as a mainstay of the Blues side, scoring 33 goals.
Liverpool could then face serious competition to secure Mount’s services, especially as their chances of qualifying for next season’s Champions League remain on the line.
Manchester United may be looking a little over their shoulder in that regard, while Real and Bayern would have to suffer a most disastrous end to their respective campaigns to miss out on a place in Europe’s elite club competition next season.
If, on the other hand, Mount extends his stay at Chelsea, it’s fair to say that Europa League football is the best he can expect in 2023-24: despite a recent upturn in form, Graham Potter’s side are 11 points behind the ranking. Premier League top four with 11 games left.
