Liverpool report: Jurgen Klopp wants Arsenal academy star in midfield

Liverpool are chasing an Arsenal academy graduate to improve their midfield.
That is according to reports in Spain suggesting the Reds are going to sack Valencia for Yunus Musah, who was put through the Hale End system before leaving for La Liga.
Jurgen Klopp has a wealth of options in midfield, but with such injury problems in the middle of the park and the fact that many of his senior options, such as Fabinho, Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson, are on the wrong side of 30, it’s it seems likely that the Merseysiders will tackle this problem position sooner rather than later.
Spanish outlet tokens (opens in new tab) notes that the Anfield hierarchy are fans of Musah, who played against both England and Wales in the 2022 World Cup for the United States.
Musah, a dynamic, industrious presence at the centre, is reportedly valued at around €20 million, having established himself internationally on the east coast of Spain. He left Arsenal three years ago in search of regular playing time – and now Arsenal are apparently one of three England sides eyeing him, along with Liverpool and Chelsea.
The 20-year-old grew up in England and Italy, was born in the US to Ghanaian parents and was turned down as a representative of the Three Lions. Gareth Southgate has since lamented the midfielder’s loss to the US and admitted England were on his trail.
This would mean Musah would likely carve a homegrown spot in the Liverpool squad – and while he’s been used all over the pitch at youth level, his midfield physicality and technicality are his strongest points, making him a perfect fit for both internal roles in Klopp’s line-up.
According to the Liverpool echo (opens in new tab)the Reds “lead the race” for Musah, while ESPN (opens in new tab) claims Inter Milan are also in the running for the starlet.
Musah is valued at €25 million by Transfer market (opens in new tab).
