Lakers, Heat, Celtics favorites for DeRozan

The Chicago Bulls recently got things back on track as they went on a three-game winning streak, defeating solid NBA teams in the Miami Heat, Atlanta Hawks, and New York Knicks. But just as they seemingly turned a corner, they were blown away by the lowly Houston Rockets, but they bounced back with a victory over the Milwaukee Bucks in overtime.

It’s been such a season for the Bulls so far that when they take a step forward, they quickly take two steps back. We’re going to be learning a lot about this team over the next two weeks as they face a very daunting schedule.

Already behind the eight-ball at 15-19, seven of Chicago’s next seven games are against teams with a record over .500 and in the playoff chase. If the Bulls are going to make anything of this season, these are teams they need to win some games against.

This trajectory can determine the direction the team takes before the trade deadline. Rumor has it that Chicago is a team that can blow things up before the deadline. If that was the path they choose, a player like DeMar DeRozan would almost certainly be on the move.

DeRozan is having another excellent season for the Bulls, but his chemistry with Zach LaVine has been tricky. While the two respect each other, their overlapping skill set has led to some problems on the pitch as multiple player meetings have been held to try and sort things out.

Chicago is eligible for a contract extension this upcoming off-season and could choose to move from DeRozan. Giving him an extension would be hard to justify, and in terms of value it could be worth it considering they can get more for him now than they surrendered to take him over from the 2021 off-season San Antonio Spurs.

If he is going to be traded, the Los Angeles Lakers are the contenders to acquire him, according to Sports betting.AGThe Lakers’ odds are set at +200, well ahead of everyone else. The next closest teams are the Miami Heat at +400 and Boston Celtics at +500.

Los Angeles has been linked to DeRozan since he landed in Chicago, as he actually thought he was heading home before Rob Pelinka changed course and instead acquired Russell Westbrook from the Washington Wizards.

The two are rumored to be traded for each other, with Los Angeles adding a share of their coveted draft fee along with Westbrook. DeRozan would be joined by Nikola Vucevic on his way to the Lakers, giving the team a significant rotational upgrade.
