Knicks, Lakers, Heat, Mavs Eye Zach LaVine Trade?

NBA Analytics Network

The Chicago Bulls have begun to show signs of life as of late, climbing back into the NBA playoff picture in the Eastern Conference. Since going on a four-game losing streak, they have won six of nine games to move into 10th place in the conference.

While that’s a long way from the level they expected, it’s at least a step in the right direction. The next few weeks are going to be extremely important for the franchise as they can shape the path they take for years to come.

When healthy, the owners and front office believe they have one of the better rosters in the NBA. It would be hard to argue with that as Chicago was near the top of the standings during the 2021-2022 season before injuries began to negatively affect the team.

Starting point guard Lonzo Ball’s injury has been the most damaging as they didn’t look the same without their floor general. With its return to the skies, Chicago could choose to blow things up and rebuild a bit.

If that’s the course they choose, Zach LaVine is a player that can be made available before the trade deadline. LaVine signed a five-year, $215.2 million deal with the Bulls last season, and that’s a deal they could get out of if they go through a remodel.

If LaVine is made available, expect there to be a strong market for him. According to Michael Scotto from HoopsHypethere are already four teams to keep an eye on.

“If the Chicago Bulls make Zach LaVine available before the trade deadline, rival executives are eyeing several teams that may be interested in trading for him, including the New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks and Miami Heat.”

The New York Knicks are widely expected to be star chasing after falling short in their pursuit of Donovan Mitchell. However, given the current roster composition, LaVine’s lineup fit could be tricky.

The Los Angeles Lakers need to do something as they are wasting another great LeBron James season. LaVine would fit in well as the third star in their Big 3 alongside James and Anthony Davis.

The Dallas Mavericks are desperate for a running mate for Luka Doncic. LaVine would provide much of what the team lacks as a secondary playmaker, ball handler and offensive option. However, the assets they need to build a trading package with are yet to be included.

The same can be said about the Miami Heat, who lack draft capital and negotiable contracts. Unless Miami is willing to take on someone like Jimmy Butler or Bam Adebayo, which would be counterproductive to them, landing LaVine could be considered a pipe dream.
