Jazz, Mavs, Nets, Wizards find John Collins Trade

Looks like it’s only a matter of time before the Atlanta Hawks make another trade. Some tension has developed between head coach Nate McMillan and his NBA All-Star point guard, Trae Young, which has seeped into the performance of the rest of the team.

After jumping to a 7-3 start this season, Atlanta has struggled to find consistent success. They have since had two three-game losing streaks and an eight-game losing streak of alternating wins and losses.

In addition to the issues between McMillan and Young, the Hawks are dealing with a lot of injuries. De’Andre Hunter and John Collins are both dealing with injuries, and creating a roster around Young has its challenges when everyone is healthy and available to play.

Collins is a player to watch when it comes to trading rumors about the Hawks. He’s seemingly been in the trade bloc for years and according to Atlanta is someone he has some interest in Shams Charania of The Athletic.

“Meanwhile, the Hawks have had several teams in the Collins market, such as Utah, Washington, Brooklyn and Dallas, sources said. Atlanta has so far expressed no interest in a potential framework that would include Brooklyn’s Joe Harris, those sources said. Phoenix has a lust for Collins but seems disinclined to take on the forward, who is in the second season of a five-year, $125 million pact.

The contract Collins has will certainly be a hurdle to clear. That’s a lot of money for a team, and matching salaries can be a challenge, especially if it takes several rotation pieces to close a deal.

The Wake Forest product is also in the midst of the worst season of its career. His 3 point shooting has fallen off a cliff and his skills are not one that many teams spend a lot of money on as he has some shortcomings as a defender and his efficiency is declining.

However, Collins is only 25 years old. He certainly has some time to get things back on track, especially if he’s playing for a team that would offer him more opportunities with the ball in his hands. It wasn’t that long ago that Collins averaged 21.6 points, 10.1 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game as a go-to player for the Hawks.
