Jalen Green sounds intrigued by Kyrie, not Harden

NBA Analytics Network

Houston Rockets guard Jalen Green was recently a guest on the Los Angeles Clippers small forward Paul George podcast, and the rising NBA star had some interesting things to say about Kyrie Irving and James Harden.

Green, who was the second overall pick in the 2021 draft, said he was in awe of Irving playing the Duke product for the first time.

“I think he had about 50,” Green said. “The way he did it was like he stops on a dime, pulls up on 3s, he throws the ball over his head, and I’m like ‘Bro, what’s up?’ And it’s like you’re playing against him on the field, still trying to compete, but it’s like you’re just in awe of what he’s doing.”

Later in the podcast, George Green asked if Harden might sign with the Rockets this summer. George said he thinks it’s a bad idea for Harden to go back to Houston, while Green admitted it could be a good thing or a bad thing.

“I think it can go both ways, like you just said, like it can help and hurt at the same time,” Green said. “I haven’t really talked to him much about, you know, the rumors and things like that. But I mean, yes, I’m talking to you about that.”

According to Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia InquirerHarden is expected to sign with the Rockets, the team for which he played for nine years.

“The belief among NBA executives is that James Harden will rejoin the Houston Rockets this summer,” Pompey wrote. “Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta ‘loves’ the 76ers point guard. The franchise expects to reunite with him, sources say. Before the Rockets hired Ime Udoka on April 25, according to sources, head coaching candidates were asked their thoughts on coaching Harden during the interview process, according to sources.

Sources have said his interest in returning to Houston is mutual and not a ploy to get a lucrative deal out of the Sixers. His mother still lives in town. He has several business ventures there. And, as one source said, ‘he’s treated like a god in Houston.’”
