IPL 2023: Three teams to bid for Cameron Green in the upcoming mini auction

The upcoming auction of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) will take place on December 23 in Kochi. Prior to the bidding event, 991 players signed up to go under the hammer. But with a squad limit of 25 players, only a maximum of 87 cricketers can earn contracts from the franchises, 30 of which can be foreign players.
As with any auction, the teams will focus on selecting high quality all-rounders as they are always in high demand due to their role. All-rounders often go for the big bucks at IPL auctions and Australian thrills cameron green becomes a hot item in the mini auction.
Green was already impressive with his bowling spell, and following his bat exploits in India earlier this year, the reckless Australian all-rounder is likely to spark a bidding war between the IPL franchises.
Green registered his name in the mini-auction of the lucrative tournament at a base price of INR 2 crore. Although recent comments from Australian coach Andrew McDonald have left Green’s availability questionable. But given that the jack-of-all-trades is coming to play in the IPL, let’s take a look at three teams that can bid for Green in the mini-auction.
Lucknow Supergiants
After releasing Jason holder of their squad, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will undoubtedly be looking for an all-rounder, and Green could be an ideal choice. Holder did a particularly good job with the ball for Lucknow, but couldn’t leave behind his impact with the bat.
LSG has the likes of Marcus Stoinis and Deepak Hoodaand if the duo bat in the top order, then the KL Rahul-led side can try Green as a finisher – a role he has played well in ODIs and Tests, but not yet in T20s.
Sun Risers Hyderabad
SunRiser Hyderabad (SRH) have to rebuild their team from scratch and have a huge purse of INR 42.25 crore left. They released their skipper Kane Williamson, finisher Nicholas Pooran and all-rounder Romario Shepherd. Since Green can bat in the highest order, he will add tremendous balance to the team.
As the opener, Green scored 61 (30 and 52 (21) against India for the 2022 T20 World Cup. His 214.55 series success rate would be a standout for all franchises including SRH, who have the worst power play success rate in the series in 2022, with 108.52.
Punjab kings
Like the Sunrisers, Punjab Kings (PBKS) has also disposed of quite a few players including their skipper Mayank Agarwal who had a terrible season with the bat and his leadership also raised many eyebrows. Prior to the mini-auction, the Kings handed over the reins to Shikhar Dhawan.
Since PBKS has released finisher Odean SmithGreen could very well become their go-to man in the lower order as their top, and the middle order is sorted with Dhawan, Johnny Bairstow, Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Liam Livingston. With their budget of INR 32.2 crore, signing Green could be a game-changer as it also allows PBKS to play an additional batsman.
