Team India encountered with a clinical appearance New Zealand in the second ODI at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur as the hosts won the match by eight wickets to take an unassailable 2–0 lead in the three match series.
First, the Indian bowlers dominated proceedings, joining the Blackcaps for just 108 in 34.3 overs. Then the captain of India Rohit Sharma led the chase from the front and hit a brilliant 51 as India completed the target in just 20.1 overs. Shubman Gillwho scored a double barrel in the opening match, remained undefeated on 40. It was India’s seventh consecutive home ODI series victory since 2019.
During India’s innings, an interesting event occurred when a boy rushed into the field and tried to hug the Indian skipper. The boy managed to get close to Rohit, but was then aggressively wrestled away by a guard.
Then the Indian captain asked the guard to calm down while he dealt with the young child. Notably, the incident occurred in the fourth delivery of the 10th over, with India scoring 51 runs. Rohit hit 37* off 38 balls while Shubman had reached 14 off 20 deliveries.

Bowlers stepped up and delivered: Rohit Sharma after the win
Captain Rohit was extremely impressed with Team India’s bowling performance as he praised the speed battery for ramping up and delivering. Rohit thought his bowlers had some serious skills, which showed in the Raipur ODI.
“The last five games bowlers have really stepped up. Whatever we asked of them, they stepped up and delivered. You don’t usually see this kind of seam movement in India, you usually see it outside India. These guys have some serious skills, they work really hard and it’s great to see them being rewarded. We trained yesterday and the ball bounced around under the lights. We knew if they had about 250 it might have been a challenge for us, but that was the reason we chose to hunt. We hit the first last game, so the idea was to challenge ourselves. I’m not sure what I’m going to do at Indore (in the last game). There is great confidence within the group and that is nice to see.” said Rohit in the post-match presentation.
