Executives like Mavs as Immanuel Quickley Suitor

The Dallas Mavericks are learning the hard way that it takes more than just an NBA superstar to have a competitive team. Luka Doncic is one of the best players in the world, but even he struggles every night to keep this team afloat.

There is a lot of pressure on him to carry the burden virtually alone offensively. Spencer Dinwiddie is the only other reliable ball handler the team has, placing the responsibility on Doncic to create for himself and his teammates. That has led to monster performances and big competitions, but we’re not even at Christmas yet and Doncic is already showing signs of wear and tear.

Sooner or later, Dallas has to take a step to get him the help he needs. They miss Jalen Brunson very much, who signed a free agent contract to become the starting point guard of the New York Knicks. Kristaps Porzingis is also doing well with the Washington Wizards and looks like the player Dallas had hoped he would be for them before trading him before the deadline.

Speaking of the Knicks, they could be someone the Mavericks want to do business with before the trade deadline this season. Four different players are rumored to be shopping in New York; Evan Fournier, Derrick Rose, Cam Reddish and Immanuel Quickley. According to Eric Pincus of Bleacher Reportmany people believe Quickley is a good target for Dallas.

“New York may be open to bigger deals, including Derrick Rose, Obi Toppin and Immanuel Quickley, but only if it brings players back to boost the team’s playoff chances. Perhaps the wizards would make a deal with enough provisional compensation for Kuzma. Some competitive executives agree that the Dallas Mavericks should target Quickley when available.

Quickley would provide the ball handling that Dallas sorely misses behind Doncic and Dinwiddie. He has shown this season that he can handle offenses better, which is part of the reason Rose has been removed from the rotation.

His 3-point shooting hasn’t been there this season, but Quickley would be a huge upgrade for Dallas. He is also a very good defenseman and rebounder, two areas that the Mavericks have struggled with immensely.

The biggest question for Dallas, though, is whether they can afford Quickley. The Knicks are not actively seeking him and it will take at least a future first round pick to acquire him. But with the rotation changes Tom Thibodeau has made, it wouldn’t be shocking if the price went up for Quickley as he is an integral part of the team’s second unit and rotation.
