Bucks, Hawks, Heat Pushing for Jae Crowder Trade

NBA Analytics Network

The Phoenix Suns informed veteran Jae Crowder that his role would be reduced during the 2022-2023 NBA season as they planned to start Cam Johnson. Crowder wouldn’t agree, so he asked for a trade. It’s understandable that a player would want to be in a situation where they can play more, but Crowder never reported.

The Suns agreed that keeping Crowder away from the team was best, essentially okay that he persisted. It was a move that surprised many people, as the depth of the Suns’ frontcourt was shaky, even with Crowder. It would be an even bigger question mark without him, but nothing has changed on that front, even with Johnson sidelined.

Phoenix continues to search for a trading partner willing to make a deal for the veteran attacker. Multiple teams have been linked to him as contenders expressed interest before the regular season got under way.

But now that it’s almost December 15, the day when many players who signed free-agent deals become eligible to be traded, suitors are on the rise. According to Shams Charania of The Athleticthe Atlanta Hawks and Miami Heat are the two teams to watch closely in the Crowder sweepstakes.

“The Hawks and Heat are also interested in Crowder, and Miami is expected to gain momentum soon as it has a slew of players, such as Dewayne Dedmon and Victor Oladipo, available to trade starting January 15. The Bucks could continue to look for a third team to accommodate a trade for Crowder, which would be a homecoming of sorts for the Georgia native who played his college ball at Marquette.

The Hawks look like a team destined to make a move eventually. John Collins has been involved in trade rumors for years, and the franchise would like to stay under the luxury tax next season. Moving Collins, Bogdan Bogdanovic or Clint Capela would help with that.

Crowder also has the kind of skills Atlanta is looking for to build the roster around Trae Young. 3-point shooters to take advantage of his playmaking and defenders to make up for his poor defense are what the Hawks front office is looking for and Crowder fits the bill.

In Miami, Crowder would help fill the void left by PJ Tucker’s departure into free agency. Tucker signed a three-year contract with the Philadelphia 76ers, giving Caleb Martin his spot in the rotation.

Crowder would bring a lot of depth to the team and knows what Heat Culture is all about as he spent time with the team during the 2019-2020 season as they advanced to the NBA Finals at the Orlando Bubble.
