Arsenal report: Mikel Arteta is eyeing an amazing deal for ANOTHER Manchester City old boy

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta could bring a fourth former Manchester City star to the Emirates Stadium in his hunt for attacking reinforcements.
The Gunners strengthened their squad significantly over the summer with the signings of Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko from Eastlands. Both have also been hit in North London – although Jesus is currently injured – providing the leadership and experience that Arsenal’s young squad has been lacking.
In fact, Arteta’s first managerial asset was also a former City star. Pablo Mari never featured in the club’s first team, but was on the Citizens’ books for three years. He was loaned out a few times before landing at the Emirates Stadium in Brazil via Flamengo.
Now Arteta could be chasing down another attacker who has impressed during his short time at City, in the form of Ferran Torres, according to tokens (opens in new tab) in Spain.
Torres was acquired from Valencia by Pep Guardiola but only lasted a year and a half in the Premier League before Xavi picked him up for his Barcelona revolution. Barça have since signed the likes of Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski while also extending the contracts of Ansu Fati and Ousmane Dembele, making it slightly more difficult for the Spaniard to get playing time than when he first moved to Camp Nou.
Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth said so GiveMeSport (opens in new tab) that the Gunners are looking for a winger who can operate on either flank, while he is a journalist Dean Jones (opens in new tab) told GSM that Arsenal “clearly believes he could become available”.
Fabrizio Romano, meanwhile, disagrees that Torres will be on sale in the winter period, tellingly CaughtOffside (opens in new tab) that Barcelona’s “goal is to keep the same squad until the end of the season and then switch some players again in July.”
Barcelona may have no choice but to push big names through. According to Radio Catalonia (opens in new tab)the financial levers that allowed them to spend big during the summer transfer window are not repeatable – and with Torres one of the more expendable talents in Xavi’s squad and still on a relatively large contract, the Blaugrana could decide to take the to break ties.
Ferran Torres made just 28 appearances for Manchester City in the Premier League, scoring nine goals.
