Argentina 2022 World Cup squad: The 26-man squad announced

Argentina’s 2022 World Cup squad have managed to reach the quarter-finals in Qatar, top of Group C before beating Australia 2-1 in their last 16 meeting.
The Albiceleste are one of the strong favorites to win the 2022 Qatar World Cup, not least because the 2021 Copa America winners will have Lionel Messi on their squad. Messi has already scored three crucial goals for Argentina and his inspired form doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.
Of course, things haven’t been smooth sailing for Argentina at this World Cup, losing the opening game 2-1 to Saudi Arabia in one of the biggest upsets in the history of the tournament. However, the South Americans managed to dust themselves off and bounced back in their next two group matches to beat both Mexico and Poland 2-0.
Julian Alvarez has usurped Lautaro Martinez as the team’s starting striker, the Manchester City man rewarding his manager’s confidence with two goals already. Alexis Mac Allister and Enzo Fernandez have also both fought their way into Argentina’s starting line-up, ousting Angel Di Maria and Leandro Parades over the pair’s slow start against Saudi Arabia.
It’s Lionel Scaloni’s ability to turn things around mid-game when the original plan doesn’t work, which could be crucial against the Netherlands – that, and Lionel Messi’s brilliance, of course. Tactically, Scaloni does not adhere to any football dogma. He will switch from 4-2-3-1 to a 5-4-1 in the same game, a trait that has served Argentina well in the tournament (Saudi Arabia aside) so far.
Having scratched that 28-year trophy itch at the 2021 Copa America, Argentina now believes it’s time to rip the ghouls from 1986 and win a World Cup.

Argentina manager
Who is the national coach of Argentina for the 2022 World Cup?
Lionel Scaloni has proven to be fundamental. The former Deportivo La Coruna full-back, who played on loan at West Ham in 2006, went from caretaker to surprise manager and was targeted for his lack of experience, but embarked on a quiet renovation. He has formed a stable team that won its first major title since 1993.
Argentinian star player
Who is Argentina’s best player?
In his fifth (and final?) World Cup attempt, Lionel Messi is enjoying his time like never before, his critics disappearing since the Copa America victory. Argentines dreamed of winning because of Messi, but now they dream of winning for Messi. Whatever the position, the Flea always plays 90 minutes – Scaloni just wants to keep him happy.
How many players can Argentina bring to the 2022 World Cup?
National managers were allowed to bring 26 players to last summer’s European Championship, for the first time at a major tournament, as a special measure due to the COVID-19 pandemic – while last year’s Copa America, which Argentina won, allowed teams of 28 players players.
It has now been announced that 26-man squads will return for the World Cup in Qatar, an expansion of the usual 23-man squads.
