The New York Knicks recorded an impressive victory this weekend by beating the Cleveland Cavaliers 92-81 on Sunday night, followed by a smash win over the Atlanta Hawks. However, they remain a team to watch through the NBA trade deadline.

It was a nice bounce-back stretch after the Knicks blown another big lead Saturday afternoon against the Dallas Mavericks. New York led against Dallas by as much as 15 points before being hit with a three-point barrage in the second half. The Mavericks rolled the Knicks on steam in the second half, powered by a 41-15 third quarter and went on to win the game 121-100.

To shake things up and look for a spark, head coach Tom Thibodeau made a change to his rotation against the Cavaliers. Veteran point guard Derrick Rose and wing Cam Reddish were both on the outside facing in the rotation.

While Thibodeau said part of the reason Rose was sat was because it was the second night of a back-to-back, this move appears to be a more permanent one. According to Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News, Thibodeau is going on a nine-man rotation for now, with Rose and Reddish both removed from it.

This was a surprise move, but one that fans have been waiting for. With Rose no longer part of the rotation, the Knicks move forward with a rotation where Julius Randle, who is 28, is the only player over the age of 26. This is the kind of youth movement that people have been wanting and now they are getting their wish.

Reddish’s removal from the rotation makes little sense as he was cementing himself as one of the team’s best perimeter defenders. His combination of size and athleticism seemed to fit well into Thibodeau’s defense plan. Offensively, he was one of the few players able to consistently break down his defender and reach the rim.

Having traded a future first-round pick for him, it’s certainly disappointing that Reddish won’t get a chance to play more. In addition, the front office should be held accountable for how much money they used to sign Evan Fournier, Rose, Alec Burks, Nerlens Noel and Taj Gibson in 2021. move in a trade.

Speaking of trades, there are probably some that are being worked out. December 15 is the unofficial opening of the NBA trading season, as players who signed off-season contracts are eligible to be traded.

Rose is someone who would probably attract a lot of interest from contenders. He is capable of leading a bench unit and can still score at a nice clip while bringing playmaking and leadership to a roster. Reddish’s market is harder to pinpoint, but at 23 years old, he still has the tempting tools and potential teams that franchisees are willing to take a chance on.
