1 Protagonist The LA Clippers Could Be Acting Soon

The 2022-23 NBA season has already seen several ups and downs for the LA Clippers. They were among the favorites for the NBA championship this season because of the strong roster. They are arguably the deepest, most talented team, top to bottom, in the league. The Clippers’ biggest obstacle is having those players healthy and on the field.
Tyronn Lue has had to deal with players coming in and out of the lineup almost every night. There are some restrictions in place as boys return to the field after long layoffs, but more injuries have cropped up along the way.
Los Angeles has played 25 games, so far 14-11. That speaks volumes about how good a coach Lue is and how deep the team is in, as only four players have appeared in every game so far this season; Ivica Zubac, Reggie Jackson, Terance Mann and Marcus Morris Sr.
Paul George played in just 17 games and returned Monday from a three-week absence against the Charlotte Hornets. Kawhi Leonard has played in just six games as the team tries to manage his knee injury and deal with an ankle injury he suffered on Nov. 21.
LATEST NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Robert Covington & LA Clippers Updates
But given the depth the Clippers have, there will always be players who don’t get the playing time they deserve. One player who occasionally falls into that category this season is veteran Robert Covington.
Covington has been in and out of rotation depending on the health of his teammates. Despite being re-signed to a two-year, $24 million deal this offseason, he finds himself on the outside more often than not. If the team is completely healthy, that could happen more regularly.
Therefore, thus Michael Scotto from HoopsHypeCovington emerges as a trade candidate for the Clippers. Given his diverse skillset and affordable contract, it’s no surprise that Covington could be moved, as many teams would benefit from adding him to their roster.
“The Clippers are arguably the deepest team in the league and Robert Covington was the odd one out to start the season. Because of his defensive versatility, his ability to take to the floor as an experienced frontcourt player, and his moveable salary ($12.3 million), Covington is a player worth keeping an eye on.”
LATEST NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Robert Covington & LA Clippers Updates
If there was one area the Clippers needed, it was in their frontcourt. They don’t really have another big man on the roster behind Zubac, as Moses Brown is the only other center and he averages 5.9 minutes per game in 17 appearances. The loss of Isaiah Hartenstein in free agency, when he signed with the New York Knicks, was a significant loss and the Clippers have not replaced him.
Even when they get small, options are limited if Covington isn’t in the rotation. So if there are no plans to use it regularly, it would make a lot of sense to flip it for a player they’ll be using or for some more resources.
